One of the key objectives of USAID’s INCA is to strengthen community based health facility at the targeted area. USAID’s INCA has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Nutrition Services (NNS), IPHN and Community based Health Care (CBHC) under DGHS and has the consent from DGFP to work closely with GoB health facility at community level and their staff. Within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) USAID’s INCA will orient on nutrition to all frontline and supervisory level staff at project supported area. USAID’s INCA will improve the capacity of these staff members to understand and deliver key messages on nutrition through their facility as well as various community outreach program. The orientation will cover basic of food and nutrition, IYCF, maternal nutrition, counseling and conducting growth monitoring and promotion (GMP). This effort will make good use of an existing government channel through which nutrition messages could be delivered, but it also helped the GOB’s efforts to mainstream nutrition throughout the government system. USAID’s INCA deems that only orientation or training is not enough to improve quality nutrition service delivery from community clinic (CC) or union health and Family welfare center (UH&FWC). USAID’s INCA has developed the mechanism to support GoB health staff during service delivery as on job support by Community Nutrition Promoter (CNP) and Field Supervisor (FS).
Apart from these USAID’s INCA celebrates World Breastfeeding Week and Global Handwashing Day jointly with GoB at the very facility level. USAID’s INCA supported the GOB through each of these events, by organizing rallies, quiz competitions, and technical conversations with community members. In addition to these two events, USAID’s INCA actively participates in the GOB’s Vitamin A Plus campaigns as well as the community clinic days. Working jointly with the GOB and communities not only helped to mainstream nutrition, but helped strengthen the capacity of frontline staff to effective nutrition service delivery.
